Shimotsui Yoi-akari — Yukata Dressing Lessons for the Dancers 

Now in its third year, "Shimotsui Yoi-akari: The Port Where the Kitamae-bune Once Called" continues to grow, with more dancers joining each year. This time, the children performers worked hard practicing their own dressing so they could put on their yukata by themselves.

This marked our first appearance in Kita, Osaka.
Calligrapher Reikō, who created our original "Reikō Calligraphy Monyou," visited us on several occasions and even helped explain the artwork to customers in the store.
We're deeply grateful to everyone who came to see us over the course of the event.

Since this was a summer event, we focused on introducing our original Kojima Obi and its ready-tied version, WANOHA, to customers.
Our next appearance will be in autumn, this coming November — we're looking forward to meeting even more new customers there.

Exchange and Research Trip to Paris 

After the Cannes Film Festival 2026, we traveled to Paris to attend a tea ceremony hosted by the representative director of the Hi-no-Moto Culture Foundation.
There, we connected and exchanged ideas with Japanese professionals and their associates working across France, Germany, and beyond.
We were also shown a rental gallery space, and received valuable guidance on what to keep in mind when approaching international markets in the future.

Dressing the Producer and Members of JAPAN AMBASSADOR

JAPAN AMBASSADOR is a group of ambassadors dedicated to sharing Japan's greatness — its world-class craftsmanship, technical excellence, and traditional arts — with audiences both in Japan and abroad.
At CANNES GALA, an officially sanctioned ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival held at PLAGE DES PALMES, the "Preuve de Do" award ceremony was held under the theme "Honest and Noble," honoring Japanese culture and spirit and celebrating the achievements of those taking on challenges around the world.
Throughout the ceremony, the members carried themselves with grace and unwavering smiles, playing a central role in introducing Japanese culture to everyone in attendance.

Award Gifts Wrapped in Our Original Furoshiki 

At CANNES GALA, an officially sanctioned ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, an award ceremony honored individuals and projects that have contributed to film, art, and culture.
Special commemorative gifts were presented on this special stage, wrapped in a distinctly Japanese style — a furoshiki wrapping cloth. 
We were responsible for creating that furoshiki.
It was made from Cotton and Silk Twill fabric woven in Okayama, the town of textiles, featuring our original "Sora Monyou" design — a streak of gold and silver light drawn across the fabric's natural sheen.
Thanks to our close relationship with the representative director of the Hi-no-Moto Culture Foundation, we had the honor of designing this piece specially for the CANNES GALA 2026 award ceremony.

Attending CANNES GALA and Its Eve Ball, Hosted by International Film Studio NOMA 

CANNES GALA is among the highest-tier social gatherings in the world, held under the theme "Honest and Noble." 
It's a fully invitation-only, closed ceremony, bringing together cultural figures, entrepreneurs, and artists from around the globe.
The ceremony included the prestigious "Preuve du Do" award presentation, and the solemn yet glamorous evening continued until well past midnight.
The night before, the "EVE BALL" was held at the Carlton Cannes, a five-star Belle Époque hotel that first opened in 1911.
Guests in evening gowns and tuxedos gathered to dance and mingle.

Dressing Film Industry Guests at the 79th Cannes

 Film Festival Held every May in Cannes, in southern France, the Cannes Film Festival is the world's most prestigious celebration of cinema.
This year marked the first time Japan was chosen for the festival's special "Country of Honor" program, which places a spotlight on a single country each year — meaning more Japanese attendees than usual took part. We were told that the festival's stature at the pinnacle of film culture comes precisely from how thoroughly it distinguishes and stratifies everyone who gathers there, including press.
Rather than admitting everyone freely, its strict, controlled approach is exactly what has built such a strong brand.
The formalwear worn by everyone in attendance was truly beautiful and dignified — and among it all, kimono stood out as especially striking.
Seeing them draw such admiration and camera flashes up close left us with a renewed sense of pride in our own country.

Tokyo Kimono Show 2026　"KIMONO Terrasse Stage Show"
～Silk Denim Road～
Saturday, April 18, 2026, 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM

We produced "Silk Denim Road," a stage marking a new step in the world of traditional Japanese attire. We presented a fusion of tradition and innovation using miraculous Okayama-made hybrid material "Cotton and Silk Twill," featuring the Shichisai-zome ~Uchu-sora-monyou~ .
Also, the pre-tied obi "Wa no Ha" is a groundbreaking and excellent product that expands the possibilities of materials and clothing.
Guests in the full venue witnessed the future of traditional Japanese attire, starting from here.
The 30-minute stage show, featuring a slideshow, folk music, talk, a workshop that involved the entire audience, and a fashion show, was a joyful time filled with smiles from both the audience and performers.

Kimono Dressing for the Koto Music Club at the Entrance Ceremony of Mori Educational Institution's Okayama Gakugeikan Seishu Junior High School and Okayama Gakugeikan High School Following last year's entrance ceremony performance, a male student joined the club, and this year's performance brought a stronger, more powerful sound into the mix alongside its usual elegance — making for a performance well worth both watching and listening to. Kimono Instruction for Members of the Koto Music Club at Mori Educational Institution's Okayama Gakugeikan Seishu Junior High School and Okayama Gakugeikan High School The club performs at the entrance ceremony every year, and building on that occasion, we've been gradually helping students build knowledge of kimono — teaching the names of different kimono parts and how to fold one. The most dedicated students picked it up fully after just one lesson. April 3, 2026

KIMONO Terrasse's First Yokohama Pop-Up 

We displayed and sold the largest collection yet of our ready-tied obi, WANOHA.
Though the floor is mainly dedicated to traditional Japanese accessories, displaying and selling Cotton and Silk Twill kimono and obi there drew many customers who stopped out of curiosity about Japanese dress — helping bring in a meaningful number of new customers.

"27th Kojima Hina Meguri"

The annual "Kojima Hina Meguri" event brings spring to Kojima.
Every year, the mayor of Kurashiki City, Kaori Ito, was scheduled to wear our Cotton and Silk Twill kimono and Kojima obi for the opening ceremony and the denim street parade, but she was absent due to an urgent personal matter.

Held at Kurashiki Seaside Hotel, 36 individuals from 33 businesses related to Kojima gathered to deepen exchanges and promote the regional industry of Kojima more attractively.
KIMONO Terrasse also participated in the corporate exhibition booth and was able to establish deeper understanding and connections with various companies.

The "Kurashiki Shirakabe Hanayome Gyoretsu" (Kurashiki White Wall Bridal Procession), organized by the NPO Kurakoi Executive Committee, is held every autumn in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter as part of an event to revitalize the city center and promote the charm of weddings.

In the bridal procession through the Bikan Historical Quarter, pure children guide the bride and groom while protecting them.
The "Children's Kimono Myself Project" members practiced "wearing their own" formal furisode kimonos for this day. Although they were nervous and rarely smiled during the procession, they were encouraged by cries of "cute" from passersby and managed to fulfill their roles to the end.

The "Garden Party" is an annual Japanese culture experience held at the renowned Okayama Korakuen Garden.
On the Noh stage, an award ceremony for the three kimono awards, given to those who have contributed to the spread and development of kimono culture, is also held.
Girls in grades 2-4 of elementary school appear as assistants to the presenters.
The children practiced "wearing their own kimonos" repeatedly, showing respect to the recipients of the three kimono awards and aspiring to become wonderful bearers of Japanese culture themselves.
We also had time to introduce the "Children's Kimono Myself Project," where children wear their own kimonos, and they were able to showcase their skills on the Noh stage, a tangible cultural property.

Appearing in the "Oranda O-Ine Hana Matsuri 2025" Parade, Hosted by the Okayama-Netherlands Association

This event was organized to promote cultural exchange, drawing on the deep historical ties between the two countries: during the Edo period, Kusumoto Ine — daughter of the Dutch physician Philipp Franz von Siebold — lived in Shimo-no-cho for six years, and later, in the Meiji era, Dutch engineers contributed to flood control along the lower Asahi River and to the development of Kojima Bay.

The parade featured costumed participants inspired by the era of O-Ine, with RSK announcers leading a colorful procession.
The entire Kojima Obi team wore Kojima Obi and joined the parade in tribute to those working in Okayama's textile industry.

Dancers of the authentic Shimotsui Bushi silently proceed through the streets of Shimotsui, enveloped in fantastical lights.

Introducing for the first time: a reversible obi combining "Sanchoumou" which faithfully expresses the beautiful blade patterns of the national treasure "Sanchoumon" born in Osafune, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, with "Cotton and Silk Twill," the highest quality denim from Okayama that we handle. On display and for sale at the Tamahagane Jewelry temporary store in front of Osafune Station from August 24 to September 23.

In conjunction with the exhibition period of the national treasure "Tachi Mumei Ichimonji Sanchomo" at the Bizen Osafune Sword Museum, Sanchomo-themed goods are being exhibited and sold.
Our Cotton and Silk Twill obi fabric and the "Sanchomo Tomon" obi, which faithfully weaves and expresses the sword pattern of Sanchomo, were announced in collaboration (August 24, Reiwa 6).

KFP — The "Kimono as Everyday Wear" Project

With the goal of carrying our national dress forward into the future, we formed this project group in the summer of 2015. Starting in November 2017, we expanded beyond the group itself, launching the "Kimono as Everyday Wear Project" more broadly, built around the concept of bringing kimono closer to everyday clothing.

"Domestic denim is an Okayama culture we can share with the world. I wanted an unpretentious, distinctly Okayama style of everyday Japanese dress."

Denim fabric, Tatamiberi, and Sanadahimo are all local specialties of Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture — and the idea behind combining them into a striking, practical kimono obi, "Kojima Obi," came from exactly this kind of thinking.

She runs a kimono-dressing school, and for several years has proposed creative obi-tying arrangements alongside fellow makeup analysts and painters as part of the "Kimono as Everyday Wear Project" (KFP).

Through this ongoing effort to share Japanese culture from Okayama, she was named the 25th "Okayama Kimono Cultural Figure — Kimono Hakase" this past October by the Okayama Prefectural Kimono Specialty Store Association（Chairman: Kondō Norihiro）.

"Local people don't fully realize what makes Okayama special. Kimono doesn't have to belong only to the orthodox tradition of Kyoto — there's room for a hub city built around everyday kimono culture too."

In 2016, an opportunity to take part in a gathering celebrating Japanese culture in Kyoto sparked the idea: share what makes Okayama unique by combining the region's own textile specialties. That idea became Kojima Obi, which won a major competition and was trademarked and commercialized this year.

"We've built a way to share it — but what about the heart behind it?"

With the recent surge of foreign tourists, areas like the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter have become popular for their "townscape unlike anything in Kyoto" — but a recent concern has been whether a distinctly Okayama culture of hospitality, rooted in genuine connection, is truly taking root.

This month, she organized an affordable event where a Tayū from Kyoto's Shimabara district, visiting Okayama to see a friend, taught around 60 young participants — most with no prior connection to the traditional geisha districts — about the spirit of Japanese hospitality.
Participants praised it as "a glimpse into a world both old and new."

"An obi is something you tie. It feels like it could tie people together, town to town, past to present — and the future too. What should we share next?"
