-Same Tatamiberi Card Case-

【About the Product】

The tatamiberi (tatami mat edging) used in our [Kojima Obi] has been transformed into a "card case."
It's incredibly light!
And durable!
Beyond its design, the unique material can even spark conversation in business settings.
As a masterpiece born from Japan's proud culture, it's also chosen as a gift, souvenir, or prize for golf competitions.

【Product Features】

~What is Tatamiberi?~
It is a material attached to the long sides of a tatami mat to protect and reinforce the tatami surface.
It also prevents wear and tear on the corners of the tatami and plays a role in "tightening" the gaps that easily form when tatami mats are laid together.

Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, is famous as a production area, boasting approximately 80% of the nationwide production.

The prototype of tatami mats was created 1300 years ago, and at that time, only high-ranking individuals were permitted to use them. The colors and patterns of the tatamiberi used on their edges were also used to indicate social status.

In the past, the materials used were cotton or hemp threads, but today, those woven from chemical fibers are mainstream, and the variety of colors has become very rich.

As a result,
・Lightweight
・Durable
・Beautiful colors and patterns (color development)
These significant characteristics are directly utilized in the "card case."

~Same (Shark) Pattern~

A pattern resembling shark skin, created by overlapping fan-shaped designs with fine dots.
It is one of Japan's proud traditional patterns. It is also included among the "Edo Komon Sanyaku" (three major Edo Komon patterns).

Because shark skin is very hard, it is likened to armor and is said to have the meaning of warding off evil and misfortune.
There was also a time when wrapping the precious "sharkskin" around the hilt of a samurai's sword was considered a status symbol, so the "shark pattern" may have been a symbol of high-ranking samurai.

【Notes】

Tatamiberi is a strong and durable material with excellent tension.
Therefore, when placing it in a pocket or bag, it may scratch surfaces it repeatedly comes into contact with.
Please be careful about the contact surface between the card case and soft materials like fabric.

Although it is water-resistant, it is not waterproof.
*It does not protect the cards inside.

Due to its smooth material, cards are very easy to remove.
*Please be careful not to drop the contents (cards) inside.

【A message from the owner】

Thank you for visiting our website among many others.

In Kojima, Kurashiki City, cotton has been cultivated for about 400 years, and it is now known as the "City of Textiles."
Today, it is a famous city where many textiles such as denim, tatamiberi, and Sanada himo are produced.

The most famous among them is denim.
However, "tatamiberi" stands out in terms of national production volume.
It has approximately an 80% share.

Tatamiberi was originally a building material,
In recent years, it has been widely used as a material for handmade items such as coin purses, pouches, and bags.

This "card case" is also such a product.
However, one difference is that the tatamiberi used is the leftover "scraps" from making the [Kojima Obi].

Our original product, the [Kojima Obi], uses denim, tatamiberi, and Sanada himo.
After using the required length for the obi, there are always "scraps" left over.

We created this product because we thought it would be a waste to throw them away.
By utilizing everything without waste, we aim to create products that we can be proud of to the tatamiberi companies and from an SDG perspective.
