-Ichimatsu Tatamiberi (Tatami Mat Edging) Card Holder-
【About the Product】
The tatamiberi used in our 【Kojima Obi】has been transformed into a "card holder."
It's incredibly lightweight!
And durable!
Beyond its design, the unique material can also be a conversation starter in business.
As an exquisite product born from a culture Japan boasts, it's chosen for gifts, commemorative items, golf tournament prizes, and more.
【Product Features】
~What is Tatamiberi?~
It is a material attached to the long sides of tatami mats to protect and reinforce the tatami surface.
It also prevents wear and tear on the corners of the tatami and plays a role in "closing" the gaps that tend to form when tatami mats are laid together.
Kurashiki City in Okayama Prefecture is famous as a production area, boasting approximately 80% of the national share.
The prototype of tatami was born 1300 years ago, and at that time, only high-ranking individuals were permitted to use it. The colors and patterns of the tatamiberi used for its edges also indicated social status.
While the materials were once cotton or hemp yarn, synthetic fibers woven are now mainstream, and the variety of colors has become extensive.
Therefore, the major characteristics of
・Lightweight
・Durable
・Beautiful colors and patterns (color development)
are fully utilized in this "card holder."
~Ichimatsu Pattern~
In the Edo period, when kabuki actors used the ichimatsu pattern in their stage costumes, it became a wildly popular pattern among women of the time.
It is also called Arare (hailstones) or Ishidatami (paving stones).
Historically, it was depicted on haniwa (clay figures) from the Kofun period.
The 2020 (postponed to 2021) Tokyo Olympic emblem was also designed with the ichimatsu pattern as a motif.
Overseas, it is also referred to as "check" or "checkerboard pattern."
Because the same pattern continues without interruption, it embodies a wish for "prosperity."
【Precautions】
Tatamiberi is a durable material.
Therefore, when placing it in a pocket or bag, there is a risk of scratching surfaces it repeatedly comes into contact with.
Please be careful where the card case meets soft materials like fabric.
Tatamiberi is a stiff material.
When first used, the lid may spring open due to its stiffness, but with use, it will develop a fold and naturally remain in a folded state.
Although it is a water-resistant material, it is not waterproof.
*It does not protect the business cards inside.

【A Greeting from the Shop Owner】
Thank you for visiting our site among many others.
In Kojima, Kurashiki City, cotton has been cultivated for about 400 years, and it is now known as a "textile town."
Today, it is a famous town producing various textiles such as denim, tatamiberi, and Sanada himo.
The most famous among them is denim.
However, in terms of national production, "tatamiberi" stands out.
It holds about 80% of the market share.
Tatamiberi was originally a building material,
but in recent years, it has been widely used as a material for handmade items such as coin purses, small pouches, and bags.
This "card holder" is one such product.
However, one difference is that it uses the leftover parts of tatamiberi from the production of 【Kojima Obi】.
Our original product 【Kojima Obi】 uses denim, tatamiberi, and Sanada himo.
After using the necessary meters for the obi, there are always "leftovers" that remain.
We thought it would be a waste to discard these, which led us to create this product.
By using materials without waste, we aim to create products that we can proudly present to tatamiberi companies and that align with the SDGs.
