【A Message from the Shop Owner】
Thank you for visiting our site among many others.
Due to its characteristics such as "100% cotton, thick, and color-fading," many people may associate denim with workwear.
However, today's Kojima denim in Kurashiki City is more than that.
Over a long period, it has continuously evolved into a fabric that suits the Japanese climate and fits the Japanese physique.
In this process, "silk denim," which incorporates "silk," a traditional Japanese industry, was born.
I believe this silk denim is the "most suitable denim for Japanese attire."
Silk denim fabric uses cotton for the warp and silk for the weft.
This fabric has three major characteristics.
1. Cotton warp
2. Silk weft
3. Dyeing
First, regarding 1.,
Typically, denim uses a single thick cotton thread for the warp.
However, this fabric uses three strands of ultra-fine warp threads twisted together to form a high-quality yarn.
The purpose of this is that by combining thin threads, the thread itself radiates luster, adds thickness to the fabric, and creates suppleness.
However, creating high-quality ultra-fine threads requires significantly more preparation than regular threads.
Normally, this method of production is not used.
Naturally, it also costs more.
Preparing warp threads is a laborious process in weaving.
Adding the process of twisting fine threads and dyeing the threads makes it, to be honest, a thread that cannot be easily produced.
Now, regarding 2., the weft thread,
"Using silk for the weft thread"
This inherently increases the difficulty of weaving.
A warp of plant fiber and a weft of animal fiber. The materials are completely different.
Moreover, if it is a high-density weave, the difficulty further increases.
Since the luster is a characteristic of this silk denim fabric, it is essential to weave it beautifully.
Therefore, it must be woven carefully and slowly.
If the loom is out of adjustment, defects become easily noticeable, and not just anyone can make those adjustments. Repairs are the work of skilled craftsmen.
To maintain a certain level of quality, years of weaving techniques and skilled artisans familiar with the settings are required.
Regarding 3., dyeing,
Denim is synonymous with "indigo dye."
However, the issues of color fading and color transfer are unavoidable.
Therefore, we developed a reactive dye for thread dyeing that maintains the look and feel of denim, and incorporated it into our products.
For the ink color, sulfide dyes are used.
By encountering this fabric,
・It can be washed at home.
・Despite being silk, it can be ironed.
A kimono with a luxurious texture and easy care was born.
We sincerely hope that this kimono will allow you to enjoy your traditional Japanese attire lifestyle even more.
