Our Commitment to "Musubi"

At Kojima Obi, we mainly produce half-width obi.

This is because

We value "tying" the obi.

Until recently, the Nagoya obi was synonymous with a "casual obi."

The half-width obi was considered more as part of "homewear" or "workwear,"
rather than a stylish obi for going out.
It seems it was only tied for yukata at most.

Recently, stylish half-width obis with various colors and patterns have increased,
making them ideal for casually strolling around town in a kimono.
It seems to be increasingly seen this way.

This is due to various reasons, such as:

・Enjoying the colors and patterns on both sides with a reversible design
・Lightweight (about half the weight of a fukuro obi)
・Affordable price

・More people freely and casually enjoying kimono

Among these, I believe the biggest appeal of the half-width obi is
"the freedom to tie it" and "the rich variety of tying methods."

Why is a variety of tying methods necessary?

In times when there was a status system,
the materials for kimonos and obis
were all predetermined, and only specific types could be worn.

In some cases, even the obi-tying method was dictated.

Thankfully, we now live in an era where everyone can enjoy kimonos freely,
regardless of status.

In such an era,
the way to express individuality and make it shine
has become "kimono fashion."

Those who are financially affluent
may own many kimonos and obis, which is good.

However, you can also enjoy fashion with a small number of items.
That is by

increasing the variations in obi tying.

With just one obi, you can create endless changes each time you tie and untie it.

This also becomes a form of "self-expression" that satisfies one's sense of style.

At our kimono dressing class,

we prioritize "enjoyment"
and teach many creative obi tying methods using Kojima Obi
in our lessons.

Since Kojima Obi uses tatami borders,
it has more "stiffness" than other half-width obis,
allowing for voluminous, round, large, and flamboyant obi ties.

After learning the basic forms,
we help you develop your creativity
so you can arrange them freely.

When people become proficient in various obi tying methods,
they become very confident
when going out in kimono.

Tying the obi beautifully boosts morale, and not having it slip or collapse seems to build confidence.

I hope you find your own unique obi-tying style
and hone your "self-expression."
