~Furisode Myself Project Part 2~
Learning how to live every day from traditional Japanese clothing
Learning how to live every day from traditional Japanese clothing
After many years of teaching how to wear kimonos and living daily life in kimonos,
I have learned many things from kimonos.
Kimono dressing is about "breathing" and "posture."
When I first started learning how to dress in kimono, I had a really hard time.
I would step on the hem of the kimono and dishevel it,
and snag the sleeve and tear it.
I realized how clumsy my own actions were.
Dressing is about “breathing” and “posture.”
When I first started learning how to dress in kimono, I had a really hard time.

Unlike Western clothes, kimonos restrict movement.
Also, if you're rushing,
or irritated and angry,
or emotionally disturbed by something shocking,
the length of the left and right sleeves might differ (the center back shifts),
or the ohashori (tucked-up part) might become uneven.
Disorder of the mind directly reflects in the appearance of the kimono.
First, take a breath before wearing it.
By regulating your breathing,
I realized that you are disciplining your own mind.
Furthermore, when your mind is disturbed,
it shows in your appearance, and you cannot dress neatly.
I realized that taking a deep breath
before putting on the kimono is a way of controlling my mind.

When the obi is fastened at the correct position on the waist,
the face naturally lifts straight and the posture becomes correct.
Posture is a word used not only for a physical pose but also to express one's attitude.
I realized that posture is about aligning the axis of mind and body.
By wearing a kimono, one naturally acquires movements that correspond to it,
and I believe that this connects to how one approaches life.
Exactly,
Wearing a kimono is
"acquiring self-control."
When you fasten the obi correctly around your waist,
your posture naturally becomes correct.
Wearing a kimono is connected to how you approach life.
Wearing a kimono is a way to learn self-control.

And
From correct posture,
a beautiful bow is born,
a natural smile is born,
and a polite life begins for both others and oneself.
A correct posture naturally leads to a smile,
and a polite lifestyle begins.

I sincerely hope that everyone can live in a society
where they can be spiritually rich.
