Obi became longer and wider than before, and patterns were woven into them, transforming them into beautiful crafts.
People began to enjoy the beauty of the obi's colors and patterns, as well as the beauty of how they were tied.
In Japan, the custom of giving "long items" to loved ones as a wish for longevity and happiness is still carried on today.

Kimonos, too, are long, narrow bolts of fabric before they are tailored. Like obi, they are given as "long items" to wish for the happiness of loved ones.
