Cotton and Silk Twill Kakuobi (Men's Obi) ~Sanada Himo "Byakko (White Tiger)"
【About the product (obi)】
・This product is made using traditional industries in Kojima, Kurashiki City.
・From material manufacturing to sewing, everything is Made in JAPAN and Made in OKAYAMA.
・Please note that the product images may appear different in color from the actual product.
【Product Features (Obi)】
~Cotton and Silk Twill~
・This is a top-grade denim made with three twisted strands of extra-fine cotton yarn for the warp and silk yarn for the weft.
・It utilizes the best qualities of both silk's softness and cotton's durability.
・Its overall luster and transparent color development are attractive.
・It uses dyes that are resistant to fading.
~Tatami-beri (Tatami mat edging)~
・Kojima, Kurashiki City, boasts about 80% of the national production share. It is a traditional industry with a history of about 150 years.
・As it is a firm, glossy material, it allows for voluminous obi ties and elegant ties that highlight its luster.
~Sanada Himo (Braided cord)~
・It is believed to have been introduced to Kojima, Kurashiki City, about 400 years ago.
・Kojima Sanada Himo is characterized by its 100% cotton durability and rustic texture.

【A greeting from the shop owner】
Once upon a time, Kojima in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, was an island in the Seto Inland Sea.
However, it became connected to the mainland through large-scale land reclamation during the Edo period.
There, cotton, which is strong against saline soil, began to be cultivated,
and eventually, cotton yarn and cotton fabric were produced, leading to its development as the "City of Textiles" that it is today.
In recent years, unique processing and sewing technologies have been continuously developed to further enhance its value,
and "Kojima" continues to grow as a city proud of its high quality and technical prowess.

【Kojima Obi®】 is created by combining
denim, tatami-beri (tatami mat edging), Sanada Himo (braided cord), etc., all manufactured in "Kojima, the City of Textiles."
Our goal is to create "elegantly cool" designs, primarily for women's half-width obi and men's kaku obi.

《 Features of Kojima Obi® 》
~Materials~
●Tatami-beri (Tatami mat edging)
Kojima is the top producer of tatami-beri in Japan.
It is a textile proudly produced locally.
(What is tatami-beri? It is a fabric sewn onto the edge of a tatami mat to decorate and protect it.)
Features of tatami-beri:
① Lightweight
② Easy to wipe off dirt
(Depends on the type of dirt)
③ Firm texture
Particularly due to feature ③,
it is possible to create large and gorgeous obi ties that are distinctly different from traditional obi, making you wonder, "Can this really be done with just one half-width obi!?"
This is a major characteristic of obi ties created with 【Kojima Obi®】.

※We use specially developed heat-resistant tatami-beri so that wrinkles from tying can be ironed out.
※Our tatami-beri is manufactured by
"Takata Orimono Co., Ltd."
and "Nishinaka Orimono Co., Ltd." in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture.

●Denim
"Kojima Denim" has already made a name for itself in the fashion world.
However, there are so many types of denim that it cannot be described in a single word.
So, what kind of denim is suitable for an obi? We considered this and selected fabric that meets the following conditions:

① The total weight of the finished obi is up to 500g (to avoid burdening the body)
② Can be maintained at home (no color fading/transfer, can be hand washed and ironed)
③ Does not compromise the dignity of traditional attire
From among many options, we chose
"silk denim," an elegant blend of silk and cotton that maintains a casual feel while possessing refined beauty,
as our main fabric.

Silk denim is used not only for obi but also for kimonos, and it has a good reputation for its luster, pleasant feel, and comfortable wear.
※Our denim fabric is manufactured by
"Showwa Co., Ltd." in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture.

●Sanada Himo (Braided cord)
Sanada Himo is one of the narrowest woven fabrics in the world,
but it adds a distinct touch despite its slenderness.
We use it for embellishing the denim side of some obi,
and it is also used for our original obijime (obi cords).
It has a long history, said to have been sold as a souvenir on the pilgrimage route during the Edo period, when visits to both Yukawa Daigongen (Kojima) and Konpira-san (Shikoku) were popular.
※Our Sanada Himo is manufactured by "Sakamoto Orimono Co., Ltd." in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture.

~Sewing Technology~
Sewing different materials and fabrics of varying thickness to create a reversible obi requires skill.
However, Kojima possesses excellent sewing technology, used for handling jeans and other products with complex manufacturing processes.
Since the population engaged in the sewing industry is still large, 【Kojima Obi®】 is, as its name suggests,
a MADE IN KOJIMA product, with all processes from material manufacturing to sewing carried out in Kojima.

"City of Textiles"
still produces other textiles.
We hope that a single obi can be an opportunity for many people to learn about this "unique city where various types of textile industries gather."
